Jim Murray, MA, LMFT
From the Emergency Room at Cottage Hospital to UCSB's Alcohol and Drug program, I've gained my experience in a variety of top-notch clinical settings. In my 10 years in practice, I've successfully worked with teens, adolescents, couples and families dealing with substance abuse issues, depression, relationship instability and academic concerns. I also worked as a school-based therapist in the Los Angles Unified School District; there I learned early intervention techniques for students with Asperger's, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Anorexia/Bulimia and high-risk behaviors.
My focus is on developing individualized treatment plans based on your goals. I can help facilitate referrals to highly-recommended psychiatrists, nutritionists, academic specialists and physicians if needed. I specialize in working with resistant individuals who aren't 100% committed to counseling.
I have a background in athletics and broadcasting and I've successfully worked with individuals from high-pressured careers. I've helped elite athletes on performance-related goal-setting and post-career transition. In addition to my practice, I have taught Clinical Psychology and Communications at Antioch University.
