Michael A. Vogel, MA, PhD(c),LMFT

"The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are"~ C.G. Jung.

Life is about relationships and we know they can sometimes be complicated to navigate when we do not feel whole. If you are experiencing personal conflict, trauma, or you have experienced significant changes or impactful transitions in your life, I am available to help you navigate those internal dynamics. I have a Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology and I am currently finishing my Doctorate in Depth-Psychology at Pacifica Graduate Institute. My emphasis is Psychoanalysis/Jungian Psychology, but I have nearly a decade of training in evidence based therapies that are effective in treating a wide range of problems.

In addition I hold a board certifications as a PTSD-Clinician and in Psychological First-Aid. I work with all ages suffering from childhood trauma to single incident trauma events. I have extensive experience of both working in the fields of aviation and law enforcement, as well as treating individuals who are employed in the high-stress fields of professional aviation or law enforcement. I have 15 years of experience in carrier aviation and work extensively with the California Highway Patrol doing Critical Incident Stress Management.

Trauma offers the opportunity for emergence; not only as a reminder of suffering. Together we can work to transform the experience suffering into rebirth of your authentic self. Whether it is with Jungian-oriented psychoanalysis or short-term therapy, like EMDR, we can move a suffering of soul towards deeper meaning. Please call for a complimentary consultation.

"The one who looks outside--dreams, but the one who looks inside-- awakens" ~ Carl Jung

I received my Bachelors degree from Antioch University of Santa Barbara with a major in both Psychology and Media Communications.  I later obtained my Masters degree in Clinical Counseling Psychology at Pacifica Graduate Institute, with an emphasis in Depth Psychology. At Pacifica I focused my academic research on the use of mythopoetic exploration as an intervention, in helping families of children with special needs, and navigating the emotional feelings around this particular life experience.

At Community Counseling & Education Center in Santa Barbara, I completed my traineeship towards licensure. And while I worked with many individuals, couples, and families, my expertise showed up to be teens with individuation hurdles, couples wanting to grow as individuals while focusing on deepening their own relationship, people experiencing crisis-of-faith and spiritually-oriented issues, as well as women navigating difficult life-transitions.

In my current role at Janus Counseling Center as an Associate Marriage & Family Therapist #107599, under the supervision of Jackie Henretig, PsyD PSY30160. I come alongside my patient/s in developing a treatment plan that will help glean the best results in the therapeutic experience--and to find meaning throughout the process.

You can reach me at Jennifer@JanusCounseling.com or by calling (805) 845-9649.

Life can often seem overwhelming and out of our control. Anxiety, depression, and rumination become all to familiar friends. When we enter the vortex of negative thought, expression, and belief we embrace the worst part of ourselves. In this time we reach out to anything that can give us a feeling of comfort and safe harbor. Alcohol, drugs, bad relationships that we know are toxic for us are at least familiar. Through all of this there is the small voice inside us that says "I can do better than this. I can be better than what I am." It's hard to hear, but its there in the place that seems the scariest to go. Deep within yourself.

There are no great deeds that are done alone. Everyone who has climbed mount Everest has done so with a Sherpa. We all have patterns that keep us stuck, and by learning how to recognize them with the help of a clinician, positive life change can transpire. I operate with a growth mindset, and will guide and challenge you to do the same.

With a compassionate and person-centered approach, including, but not limited to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Narrative Therapy, I focus on changing thought patterns and establishing new ways of addressing issues that keep you stuck.
