Therapists & Associates

Michael A. Vogel, MA, PhD, LMFT

"The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are"~ C.G. Jung.

Life is about relationships—and yet, they often become difficult to navigate when we do not feel whole. If you are experiencing personal conflict, trauma, or have gone through significant life transitions, I am here to help you explore and integrate those internal dynamics.

I hold a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology and am completing my Doctorate in Depth Psychology with an emphasis in Psychoanalysis and Jungian Psychology at Pacifica Graduate Institute. In addition to my analytic training, I bring nearly a decade of experience in evidence-based modalities, including EMDR, cognitive therapies, and somatic approaches that are proven effective in treating a wide range of psychological concerns.

I am board-certified in both PTSD treatment and Psychological First Aid, and I work with individuals of all ages—from those impacted by childhood trauma to adults suffering from acute, single-incident traumatic events. My clinical work is informed by over 445,000 hours of experience across diverse settings, including forensic, medical, and crisis intervention contexts.

As a retired combat-decorated Naval Aviator with 15 years in carrier-based aviation, I specialize in serving individuals in high-stress and high-responsibility careers. I work closely with law enforcement personnel, particularly through my ongoing collaboration with the California Highway Patrol, providing Critical Incident Stress Debriefings and trauma-informed care to officers and dispatchers.

In addition to private practice, I lead Janus Counseling Center® and recently founded a nonprofit dedicated to supporting women in law enforcement and the military who have experienced sexual trauma. I also provide forensic psychological evaluations for Mental Health Diversion cases and other legal settings.

Trauma is not only a wound; it is also a portal. Together, we can work to transform suffering into a pathway for emergence and wholeness. Whether through Jungian-oriented psychoanalysis or short-term targeted therapies like EMDR, I invite you to move with me into a space where the soul’s pain becomes the ground of its healing.

"The one who looks outside--dreams, but the one who looks inside-- awakens" ~ Carl Jung.

I received my bachelor's degree from Antioch University of Santa Barbara with a major in Psychology and Media Communications.  I later obtained my Master’s degree in Clinical Counseling Psychology at Pacifica Graduate Institute, emphasizing Depth Psychology. At Pacifica, I focused my academic research on using mythopoetic exploration as an intervention in helping families of children with special needs and navigating the emotional feelings around this particular life experience.

At Community Counseling & Education Center in Santa Barbara, I completed my traineeship towards licensure. And while I worked with many individuals, couples, and families, my expertise showed up to be teens with individuation hurdles, couples wanting to grow as individuals while focusing on deepening their own relationship, people experiencing crisis-of-faith and spiritually-oriented issues, as well as women navigating difficult life transitions.

In my current role at Janus Counseling Center as a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist #122491. I come alongside my patient/s in developing a treatment plan that will help glean the best results in the therapeutic experience and find meaning throughout the process.

You can reach me at Jennifer@JanusCounseling.com or by calling (805) 845-9649.

Therapists at Janus Counseling Center provide quality care and helpful feedback to each and every client, building on the strengths of each individual.  We use current evidence-based and psychodynamic modalities in guiding clients toward healthy ways of communicating, managing emotions, letting go of the past, problem-solving, and getting along with others.  We offer support and essential skills that will aid families in periods of transition, illness, loss, or crisis. Our staff will walk alongside to navigate difficult issues before they become overwhelming problems.

When applicable, we work in close cooperation with schools, physicians, social services, and other professionals to reach optimum goals set by our clients.  We do our best to integrate the latest scientific and clinical research into our thoughts on treatment application, while addressing our client's personal, interpersonal, and spiritual issues.

Not only are the staff at Janus Counseling Center highly skilled in their respective roles and duties, but they stay mindful with the patients that come in the door.  Whether that be the bookkeeper, the receptionist, a therapist, or an intern, you will most likely sense a genuine warmth and receptivity.
